GROUND PENETRATING RADAR (GPR)
MATECO Drilling offers Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to their clients as an accurate, easy to use and reliable way to non-destructively locate subsurface targets prior to drilling and excavation or for conducting site assessments and mapping.
Ground Penetrating Radar works by sending a tiny pulse of energy into a material and recording the strength and time required for the return of any reflected signal. A series of pulses over a single area make up what is called a scan.
Reflections are produced whenever the energy pulse enters into a material with different electrical conduction properties (dielectric permittivity) from the material it left. The strength, or amplitude, of the reflection is determined by the contrast in the dielectric constants of the two materials.
GPR is safer & more cost effective than radiography (X-Ray)
MATECO Drilling uses a GSSI SIR3000 GPR and SIR4000 system and can deploy 200 MHz, 350 MHz, 1600 MHz, and 2600 MHz antennas for various applications ranging from locating rebar/conduits in concrete floors, shallow geology investigation, utility location and UST’s.
GPR is safer and more cost effective than radiography (X-ray) since there is no need to evacuate large areas preventing other trades from working within the vicinity. GPR does not require access from both sides like X-ray does, single-sided access is sufficient.
