Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
MATECO Drilling offers Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to their clients as an accurate, easy to use and reliable way to non-destructively locate subsurface targets prior to drilling and excavation or for conducting site assessments and mapping.
Ground Penetrating Radar works by sending a tiny pulse of energy into a material and recording the strength and time required for the return of any reflected signal. A series of pulses over a single area make up what is called a scan.
Reflections are produced whenever the energy pulse enters into a material with different electrical conduction properties (dielectric permittivity) from the material it left. The stength, or amplitude, of the reflection is determined by the contrast in the dielectric constants of the two materials.
MATECO Drilling uses a GSSI SIR3000 GPR system and can deploy 1600MHz and 400MHz antennas for various applications ranging from locating rebar/conduits in concrete floors, shallow geology investigation, utility location and UST’s.
GPR is safer and more cost effective than radiography (X-ray) since there is no need to evacuate large areas preventing other trades from working within the vicinity. GPR does not require access from both sides like X-ray does, single-sided access is sufficient.
The Vermeer VX100XT AIR series of vacuum excavators are equipped with an air compressor and water pump combination providing jobsite options of both air and hydro excavation on demand.
Locating specific pipes, cables and markers in large underground networks is becoming increasingly complex. Ground distortion effects, caused by differing soil types and proximity to other conductors, make the operator’s job more difficult and time-consuming.
The most important requirements for a locator under these circumstances are ease of use, accuracy and reliability. Radiodetection’s RD7000+ addresses these needs with several groundbreaking features that deliver accurate, reliable and repeatable measurements.
The RD7000+ is a complete range of locators designed to meet specific industry needs. RD7000+ can locate and automatically estimate depth of pipes, cables and most commonly used RF markers, allowing for faster and more accurate surveys, even in areas of high level of electrical interference.
